On the southern slopes of the Ljubljana Marshes

Take a walk on the southern slopes of the Ljubljana Marshes, enjoy the beautiful views from Stražar and St. Anne, and take time for a picnic among nature in the picturesque Vintgar Gorge.

South of Ljubljana’s city centre, you’ll visit four beautiful places on the edge of the Ljubljana Marshes Nature Park. You will start your trip with a walk to the scenic vantage point of the 794-metre Stražar, from where you will have a view of Triglav, the Julian Alps and the Karawank mountains, as well as Ljubljana and the neighbouring Mount Krim.
You will then continue to the picturesque Iški Vintgar gorge, through which the River Iška flows. The gorge has rapids, waterfalls, and river pools, which are refreshing in the summer months, as you can swim in the river in some places.

After a picnic by the river, surrounded by rock formations, you will continue to the Church of St Anne, which is located on a small hill and offers a beautiful view of the Ljubljana basin and the Alpine world. You will end your journey at Lake Podpeč, which is one of the deepest lakes in Slovenia with a depth of 51 metres.
