Škofljica
The town of Škofljica lies south east form Ljubljana. It has developed from a roadside settlement on the crossroads of Ig, Kočevje and Ljubljana.
The areas municipal centre is Škofljica. It extends over the south eastern brink of the Ljubljana Marshes (Ljubljansko barje), the valley of Želimje and the hilly area above Želimje.
The remains of the Iron Ages settlement Molnik, supposedly a residence of the Halštat knights, prove that the area was inhabited already in the prehistory. Nearby remains of three crannogs were found, proofs of the old culture, present in the Ljubljana Marshes 6000 years ago.
Around Škofljica there are many hiking and cycling routes. Among sights, the Church of St. Simon and Jude with frescos of the famous painter Janez of Ljubljana and the Lisičje castle are worth visiting.
