The fact that the EC for women in handball takes place in Ljubljana this year is not the only reason for the extraordinary enthusiasm ruling over this event. A large part of the euphoria also has to do with the fact that all activities within the championship take place with a sustainable note.

The entire plan of the sustainability-oriented event is presented in a longer strategic document, but since it is very long and detailed, a few of its main ideas and events, which you can follow as part of the championship, are highlighted below.

Planting Trees

In order to further green the already green capital (which also received an international award for its greenness in 2016), 16 new fruit trees will be ceremoniously planted in front of Miran Jarac Primary School on 10 November at 11:00, symbolizing the 16 national teams that will compete against each other at the European Championship.

Free Bus Rides to the Games

Since the special emphasis of this year's championship is on sustainability, Ljubljana Castle and Ljubljana Passenger Transport organized free bus transport from Ljubljana Castle to Stožice for holders of Ljubljana Castle tickets and tickets for the handball championship in Stožice (around the times during which matches are being played).

The departure times of the bus from the castle, which are adapted to the start of the matches in Stožice, are as follows:

  • November 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 at 4:45 p.m.,
  • November 16 at 2:00 p.m.,
  • November 18 at 1:45 p.m.,
  • November 20 at 4:30 p.m.
