The Soteska cultural quarter is a centre of culture in and around Gregorčičeva Street in Ljubljana, where art, gastronomy, and local artisan crafts come together.
The start of the project dates back to 2019, when various cultural actors from Gregorčičeva Street and the surrounding area came together after years of occasional collaboration. Together they strive to transform Soteska from a transit street into a lively community destination, held together by diverse cultural activity, a pleasant cafe atmosphere, gastronomy, and quality accommodation. Soteska is a place where the local community can connect with visitors through art and culture. Cultural events, which are part of the quarter, aren’t just an opportunity for fun, but also for deepening mutual relations and strengthening the community. Various programmes and activities promote creativity, innovativeness, and cooperation between locals and visitors.
The Soteska cultural quarter is everyone who lives, works in, and crosses this space.
The Soteska Open Resilience Festival
Every year at the beginning of summer, the cultural quarter hosts the Soteska Open Resilience Festival. This unique event invigorates Gregorčičeva Street, Slovenska Street, Rimska Street, and Vegova Street, which serve as backdrops for art and culture for a day. The festival features a rich all-day programme with theatre productions, musical evenings, exhibitions, talks, and workshops for all ages. It brings hidden courtyards to life, sets up intimate art scenery, and turns the transit streets into spaces for socialising with excellent theoretical, art, and community events.
