Velike Lašče: MR. MIRODOLSKI CYCLING TOUR (Road)

Did you know that Slovenia has its own Athens? These are Velike Lašče, located in the hinterland of the capital, known for their famous residents – writers who have left a significant mark on Slovenian history. We invite you to follow in the footsteps of one of them, the great writer, by bike! On this trip, you'll also discover the stunning nature of this area.

Why is the town of Velike Lašče nicknamed the "Athens of Slovenia"? Because, despite being a small town, it has an exceptionally rich cultural heritage, because it is important for Slovenian history, and because it has been home to several famous men.

Among them was the writer Josip Stritar, which is why the route follows in the footsteps of the protagonist of his book, Mr. Mirodolski – mostly through places that marked the writer's life and which he described in his work. Along the way, you will visit Podsmreka, the writer's birthplace, where the old Stritar's granary houses a collection of artefacts and old tools.

And of course, we must not forget Primož Trubar, a key figure in the Reformation in Slovenia. The trip begins and ends at Trubar's Homestead, which is also the information centre of Velike Lašče. In addition to the important cultural heritage, you will be able to admire the nature here. You will cycle through the Mišja dolina valley, which is home to many species of plants and animals, thanks to its variety of wetland habitats.

The cycling tour is quite easy, with only a few short climbs. The entire route runs on paved roads.
