A town in the embrace of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps

Just a stone’s throw from the capital lies the historic town of Kamnik, one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Slovenia and, with its unspoilt natural surroundings, a paradise for lovers of outdoor activities. Besides the charming town centre, sites worth seeing include the Little Castle (Mali grad), Zaprice Castle and the Ursuline convent in Mekinje. Kamnik is also an excellent starting point for various hiking trips to the surrounding peaks. The most famous of them is the high-mountain plateau of Velika Planina, where the Alpine herdsmen take their cows each summer.
