Ljubljana – Rašica (vrh Staneta Kosca) (641 m) – Ljubljana (MTB)

The climb to the peak of Vrh Staneta Kosca or the "to Rašica trail" as the locals call it, is one of the most popular among local mountain bikers. It also offers enviable climbs, but your persistence in overcoming the inclines – sheltered by the forest on mostly well-maintained dirt road – will be rewarded at the finish line with a rest at a mountain lodge with excellent homemade food and a panorama from the lookout tower.

Rašica is a hilly, wooded area that stretches between Ljubljana and the towns in its hinterland: Trzinom, Mengeš, and Vodice. It is intertwined with gravel roads, cart tracks, paths, and trails, making it popular with local cyclists and hikers.

Cyclists most often climb to the top of Rašica through the Ljubljana suburb of Gameljne and over the slopes of the Rašica forests. From here, the road to the village of Rašica branches off and climbs steeply. You will soon be enveloped by woods, and when you reach the beginning of the village, look out for the fork in the road where you will leave the asphalt and turn onto a wide, well-trodden gravel road. The road climbs gently, mostly in the shelter of dense tree canopies, but the final climb to the top is narrower and very steep in places.

The end of the climb is crowned by a popular mountain lodge serving delicious home-cooked meals. And just a stone's throw away is a 17-metre-high lookout tower from which, in fine weather, you can see the Slovenian Alps and the lower hills in the capital's hinterland.
