The Ljubljana Photo Tour is an excellent choice for all active visitors who are interested in discovering more than just the city’s main tourist attractions. It is also ideal for photography enthusiasts, since the combination of urban environment and green parks offers a wealth of opportunities for great photos.
The route begins in the centre of Ljubljana. Set off in a southward direction, cycle past the remains of the Roman walls and cross Trnovo Bridge in the Trnovo district. The point where the Ljubljanica flows into the city centre represents the first photo opportunity. Colourful boats and lush nature create an attractive background. The next point of interest is the Ljubljana Botanic Garden and, not far from it, Špica, a riverside park area that is a popular local hangout, especially in sunny weather. Now cycle back towards the centre and climb the hill to Ljubljana Castle, perched above the city. At the top you will find a wonderful view over the city that extends all the way to the Alpine peaks in the distance and offers great photo opportunities. Cycle back down the hill and follow the river all the way to Fužine Castle, a Renaissance building in an enchanting and peaceful location on the edge of the city that is today home to the Museum of Architecture and Design. On the way back, turn into Kodeljevo Park and follow the other bank of the Ljubljanica for a while, then turn north. The route will now take you to Žale, the city’s largest cemetery, designed by the architect Jože Plečnik. Continue along a macadam road and then follow the city streets towards the “green lungs” of Ljubljana: Tivoli Park and Rožnik Hill. Cycle around the foot of the latter until you come to Koseze Pond, a photogenic man-made lake on the edge of Ljubljana. Then follow the macadam track to the Mostec recreation area on the north-west slope of Rožnik, and from there, immersed in greenery, return to the city centre, where the Ljubljana Photo Tour ends.
