GROSUPLJE: IN THE EMBRACE OF FLOWERS AND BUTTERFLIES (Road)

In the embrace of flowers and butterflies – an experience of the Karst gem.
Path recap
An exceptional experience of the Radensko Field – a natural gem, a mosaic of meadows, shrubs, forests, and seasonal lakes near Grosuplje, in the hinterland of Ljubljana. The plain alternates with slightly more challenging ascents, but the descents are all the more pleasant. The route is especially enjoyable in summer, as it mostly winds through the forest and higher-altitude areas with a milder climate.
Detailed path description
The picturesque landscape of the Radensko polje karst field exhibits many different Karst phenomena in a very small area. It is an exceptional Karst field with numerous typical Karst phenomena forming a natural mosaic of meadows and scrubland, forests, and intermittent lakes. The landscape park also includes an elevated wooded perimeter, which acts like a giant's shoulders protecting the secrets of this lesser-known jewel. With its mix of dry and wet grassland, floodplain forest, remnants of peat marsh, aquatic and riparian vegetation, and forest, this area represents an important biodiversity hotspot.
The trail around Radensko polje starts and ends at the Boštanj Castle. Only the remains of the walls remind us of the once magnificent edifice. And as an interesting aside, Rihard Blagaj was born in the castle, after whom the first protected flower in Slovenia, the Daphne Blagayana, was named. He was also the most famous Lord of the Manor of the Polhov Gradec Manor in Polhov Gradec, on the doorstep of Ljubljana.
