BEVKE LEARNING TRAIL

Did you know that the Ljubljana Marshes have not been a marsh in the true sense of the word for a very long time? Are you familiar with the plants and animals that call the marshes their home? What about the treasures hidden by the Ljubljanica River? You will learn all this and much more on the Bevke Loop Learning Trail that teaches about the natural and cultural landscape of the Ljubljana Marshes. It leads along the wide gravel roads and grassy cart tracks that cross the marshy plain. It is relatively short so it is also an excellent choice for families with small children.

The Bevke Learning Trail (Učna pot Bevke) starts south of the settlement of the same name (Bevke), at the Gradišče inselberg. There is a small car park here, and more parking is available at the Bevke Sports Park. From here, a quiet road leads you through the village to the start of the trail, which is nearly 6 km long.

The start of the trail is marked by an introductory explanatory trailhead board with a description of the Ljubljana Marshes Landscape Park and the trail, and a map. Below it is an arrow pointing you straight ahead along a wide gravel road. There are nine explanatory boards, including the introductory one, which introduce the rich natural and cultural heritage of the area. They tell you, among other things, that the marshes are an endless tangle of wet grasslands, birch forests with bracken undergrowth (steljnik), groves, hedgerows, and fields, that there used to be a mill road here, and about the Ljubljanica, the "river of seven names", and its treasures... Or you can just enjoy a leisurely cycle through the beautiful, quiet landscape. 

The route is entirely flat, with no climbs or descents. It is perfectly signposted, with arrows or with Barjanko the boy, the mascot of the trail, consistently guiding you along the way. The view across the vast plain is framed by the Krim mountains on one side and the Polhov Gradec Dolomites on the other.

The Bevke Learning Trail is suitable for cyclists and hikers alike.
