Boatmen's fights

It used to be a tradition of the Ljubljanica river boatmen's guild to organize boatmen's fights. The winners of the fights, which are first mentioned in written records in 1092, were highly regarded by other members of the boatmen's guild.

Today, the rules for fighting are exactly the same as they were in the past. Boatmen fight using a long pole and tries to push his opponent in another boat off the bow and make him fall either in the river or in his boat.

The event will also include a canoe race along the Ljubljanica river. After gathering will take place at the River Captains Club where music, food and drinks will be provided.

In case ob bad weather or due to adverse river conditions the event will be postponed on the 15th of September.
