Why Ljubljana
Ljubljana is an attractive and friendly city with a green soul. It has a relaxed vibe and is a pleasant place to be for residents and visitors alike. If you’re looking for a boutique destination, something increasingly popular among younger travellers, find out what makes Ljubljana special.
Plečnik’s Ljubljana
The mark left on Ljubljana by the famous architect Jože Plečnik is equivalent to that left on Barcelona by Antoni Gaudí. His notable works include the National and University Library, the embankments and bridges of the river Ljubljanica, the central market complex, the Križanke Summer Theatre and some elements of the urban design of the city centre.
Tip: We can offer you a guided tour of Ljubljana along the streets and paths walked every day by the master architect himself.
City of culture and art
Ljubljana is a city of rich creativity that is always full of vibrant life. A wide variety of festivals, cultural events and open-air happenings take place throughout the year. Discover the architectural heritage of a city that boasts one of the oldest philharmonic societies in the world. Visit the Cankarjev Dom cultural and congress centre, which hosts more than 1,000 events a year, Ljubljana Opera House or the Ljubljana Festival, which brings top-level concerts and performances to the city every summer.
Tip: We will advise you on when you can see the events that interest you.
Ljubljana gastronomic experience
Ljubljana has experienced something of a gastronomic boom in recent years. Slovenia is more than just the country of celebrity chef Ana Roš, whose inspiring story and fresh approach have earned her a global following.
The innovative blending of seasonal, locally produced ingredients and traditional recipes with modern approaches is also characteristic of top chefs from Ljubljana and the surrounding area, as recommended by prestigious guides such as Gault & Millau. We have worked with them to revive a number of once popular but now largely forgotten local dishes. You will find them on the menus of selected city restaurants under the Taste Ljubljana brand.
Tip: You can discover Ljubljana’s dishes, wines and beers on culinary guided tours. We can also organise lunches and dinners in selected restaurants.
Explore Ljubljana actively
Ljubljana is a city that lives with nature and offers excellent opportunities for active exploring. The city centre is closed to motor vehicles and getting round on foot is easy. One of the best ways to see the sights is by bicycle. You can also paddle through the city centre in a canoe or on a stand-up paddleboard on the river Ljubljanica. In Ljubljana the green countryside extends right into the city centre. From there you can climb up into the nearby hills – covered by forest and criss-crossed by recreational trails.
Tip: We offer you a range of active experiences of Ljubljana that allow you to get to know the city in a truly unique way.
Festive December
