We take in plants that people no longer want for various reasons, care for them and offer them for adoption to those who want them. Adoption takes place with the signing or drawing up of an adoption contract and payment of an adoption fee. The founders of the Abandoned Plants Sanctuary are academic painters so they also expand the work of the shelter into the field of art.

They try to connect with the plants, the shelter's wards, through various artistic media, especially drawing, and encourage others to do the same.
