The Volčji Potok Arboretum is the most visited botanical park in Slovenia. It covers an 85-hectare site and features 3,500 plants from all over the world.
Streams and lakes, offering habitats to water plants and animals, bring a special dynamic to the park. The Arboretum also features specially marked paths leading through beneficial energy points. In the old part of the park you can take a break in the summer café and there is also a large playground for children.
The Arboretum is situated in the former mansion park, of which only ruins remain today. The top of the castle hill can be reached along a gently sloping path. Apart from the remains of the mighty walls, it also offers a beautiful view of the Kamnik Alps and of a broad surrounding area.
The Arboretum is worth visiting in all seasons. It regularly features seasonal flower exhibitions. The most notable is the spring tulip exhibition, which takes place in April. This is followed by the rhododendron exhibition in May ̵ the oldest ones are more than 50 years old. In June more than 3,000 roses blossom, a total of 1,000 different species. Greenhouses feature cactus, orchid and tropical butterfly exhibitions.
