The Museum of Architecture and Design (Muzej za arhitekturo in oblikovanje – MAO) is one of the oldest museums of this kind in Europe. The central national museum organising exhibitions and events in the field of architecture, urban planning, industrial and graphic design as well as photography is located in the Fužine Castle – the only still preserved Renaissance castle in Ljubljana.

MAO is also the organiser of the of the world's longest-running design biennial – BIO.

Schedule

Open: Tuesday to Sunday 10:00-18:00.

The museum is closed to visitors when exhibitions are being set up and on selected public holidays (1 January, 1 November, 25 December).

The Renaissance Fužine Castle occupies a charming and quiet location along the Ljubljanica River, at the city outskirts. The spacious castle yard and the halls featuring remains of Renaissance fresco works provide a unique setting for an array of business and social events alike.

The function rooms are suitable for business meetings, receptions, promotional events, lectures, conferences, receptions, wedding ceremonies, cultural performances, concerts, exhibitions, fashion shows or simply parties. The halls and the courtyard can welcome from 250 to 800 guests. The number of people allowed on the premises is adjusted according to the current epidemiological situation.

Quite a large parking space is also available.

When choosing the Fužine Castle - Museum of Architecture and Design for an event, one should not miss the opportunity to visit their excellent exhibitions on architecture, design and photography. Almost all the prominent Slovene architects and designers from the twentieth century, as well as many photographers, are represented in the museum’s holdings, totalling to more than 1,000 authors.
