As the population of Šiška grew, the original church became too small to serve the residents in the early 20th century. The remarkable architect Jože Plečnik, father of modern Ljubljana and the author of its eternal beauty, was thus invited to design a new church. Plečnik placed a dominant edifice featuring a double tympanum above the entrance in what was then a suburban area, where the former long tilled fields were divided transversely in a checkerboard pattern. Although the church stands some distance from Celovška Cesta, it’s belfry can easily be spotted from afar. We recommend viewing the interior, which the famous architect continued to perfect for the rest of his life.
