Postojna Caves, a World-Renowned Masterpiece of Nature
Words on paper can hardly do justice to the majesty of Postojna, the largest cave in the Slovene Karst region and the most visited show cave in Europe. So far, more than 24 km of galleries have been found, of which a fraction are open to the public. This is the only place in the world where the underground landscape can be traversed on an electric train and where you get to meet this underground kingdom’s most famous inhabitant – the proteus (olm) – up close.
Highlights of the cave include a fantastic web of tunnels, passages, galleries and halls, the enormous stalactites and stalagmites, other astonishing diversity of karst features and the quite sensational concert hall which can hold up to 10,000 persons. Its remarkable acoustics make it a perfect venue for a gala reception with a choir performance.
Highlights of the programme:
- One of the world’s largest Karst monuments
- Underground cave
- The proteus (olm)
