Summer event highlights in Ljubljana

But after every storm comes a rainbow, so Ljubljana opened its streets to summer filled with festivals and mostly free outdoor events. Keep up with what will be happening until the end of August. We prepared some suggestions to help you make the most out of your stay in our city.

Film Under the Stars
On midsummer nights, film stars come to life in the courtyard of Ljubljana Castle. A programme of this season’s best films has once again been put together by Kinodvor, in collaboration with the City of Ljubljana and Ljubljana Castle.

Open-air Cinema at Kongresni trg square
With this celebration of cinema, the capital each year offers its citizens and visitors The Open-air Cinema at Kongresni trg square with free screenings of timeless film classics, marking significant anniversaries and events in cinema history and the city of Ljubljana.

Ljubljana Beach Volley 2020
For three days, Ljubljana's centrally-located Kongresni trg square will turn into a city centre beach. It will host a beach volleyball championship bringing together top international athletes. Hot sand, attractive scenery, dance rhythms and beach volleyball at the highest level are coming back to the center of Ljubljana. The Ljubljana spectacle will be the first competition under the auspices of the International Federation since the announcement of the pandemic, followed by tournaments in France, Lithuania and Cyprus.

Basketball 3x3
Ljubljana, which will host this international tournament at a spectacular venue, one of the most beautiful in the entire world basketball series 3×3. A basketball court in the so-called Ljubljana's Living room, Slovenska street, surrounded by tribunes, dynamic lighting and sound system that all blend into an unforgettable experience. The tournament will host top street basketball teams from all around the world, competing for inclusion in the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Masters tournament.

Ljubljana Festival
The Ljubljana Festival, with its long history and tradition of presenting premier artistic events, contributes significantly to the cultural life of Ljubljana in the summer. The 2020 Ljubljana Festival in Slovenia, dubbed as “the biggest cultural event” in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic, is bringing together artists from around the world. The programme includes the opening concert with Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and 3rd Piano Concerto, Countess Marica, a performance by Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov, a performance by tenor Jonas Kaufmann, musical Lolita, concert on the occasion of Mojmir Sepe’s jubilee, Summer Night, the closing concert with La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra and many others.

Jazz Stage
Free open-air jazz concerts held on Friday evenings in July and August will feature various jazz ensembles from Slovenia and abroad. We will be transported into a magical Friday night with a selection of jazz standards performed by various jazz musicians.

Don't miss this colorful programme of DJ sets and concerts held on the summer stage of the Gala Hala club at the Metelkova City autonomous culture centre.

TrNOVfest
One of the largest and oldest festivals in Ljubljana TrNOVfest is celebrating its 29th anniversary in the courtyard of the Center of Slavic Cultures France Prešeren in Trnovo district.

Triglav The Rock Ljubljana
Triglav The Rock Ljubljana, international competition, will take place on the 30th of August in Ljubljana City center. Prepare for a unique experience as this year's Triglav The Rock will be Street edition. An international competition in bouldering where the biggest names in the world of climbing will compete.

Library under Treetops
Library under Treetops (Knjižnica pod krošnjami) is a project aimed at adding variety to the range of Ljubljana's leisure activities. It offers visitors an opportunity to borrow books, comic books, magazines and newspapers in different languages free of charge.
