Slovenia Green Destinations, with Ljubljana and Podčetrtek, among the 10 World’s Best Sustainable Destinations

The opening day of ITB Berlin, the World's Leading Travel Trade Show, has concluded with ceremony where World’s Best Sustainable Destinations have been unveiled. Slovenia Green Destinations, led by holders of Slovenia Green Destination label, Ljubljana and Podčetrtek, have won the title in the category "Best Destination of Europe."

For Ljubljana the 10 World's Best Sustainable Destinations title comes after an outsanding achievement of ranking three times among Global Top 100 Sustainable Destinations (2014, 2016 and 2017) as a result of its continuous development and implementation of sustainable tourism practices and its excellent performance (Gold status) in the Slovenia Green programme.

Slovenia has been awarded for its tourism destinations' responsible and sustainable tourism initiatives leading the way towards quality and attractiveness in tourism recognized by professional public as a role model in the region of Europe to be followed.

The awards for world's best 10 sustainable destinations, chosen from among the Global Top 100 Sustainable Destinations 2017, were introduced for the first time at this years' ITB Berlin. The awarded destinations were selected by a jury representing 12 international organisations.

The evaluation of the most sustainable destinations was a joint initiative of Green Destinations International, Travelmole's VISION on Sustainable Tourism and ITB Berlin.
