Ljubljana's sustainable tourism practices presented at Slovenia Makes You Green Panel at ITB Berlin 2017
9 Mar 2017
Within the Slovenia Makes You Green Panel held at the ITB Berlin tourism fair, Petra Stušek, the managing director of Ljubljana Tourism was presenting sustainable tourism practices of our city, the European Green Capital 2016. We summarized some of the main points from the discussion.
Last year, Slovenia was given the prestigious title of the first Green Country in the World, and 17 destinations under the Slovenia Green national sustainability brand were among the TOP 100 greenest destinations in the world. Therefore, the organisers of ITB Berlin 2017 invited Slovenia, as a country that established a unique sustainable tourism model, to carry out the Slovenia Makes You Green Panel.
The story of the green country was introduced by Slovenia's Minister of Economy Zdravko Počivalšek, Maja Pak, Director of the Slovenian Tourist Board, Lučka Kajfež Bogataj, climatologist, Matevž Lenarčič, pilot, biologist, and mountaineer, Petra Stušek, Director of Ljubljana Tourism, Jan Bizjak, Garden Village Bled, and Jana Apih, Director of the GoodPlace Sustainable Tourism Institute and a representative of the Slovenia Green consortium.
As Petra Stušek pointed out, "At Ljubljana Tourism, we are very proud of recognitions and awards in the field of sustainable development and honoured to get so many requests and opportunities to share the green knowledge and achievements of Ljubljana. However, the most important fact is that Ljubljana really lives with its green soul. All the changes have significantly influenced the tourist development and atmosphere in the city. The citizens got better living conditions as well and the prognosis for future generations today is better than ever. We encourage all stakeholders in tourism development to go green and visitors of Ljubljana to leave only footprints and take only memories."
