Ljubljana hosts the 23rd Golden Drum
18 Oct 2016
The 23rd Golden Drum International Festival of Creativity, organised from 18–21 October 2016 by the Slovenian Advertising Chamber, is relocating from Portorož straight to the Ljubljana Castle in Ljubljana after 22 years. The festival has transformed from an advertising event to a celebration of creativity and the competition programme has also changed.
At Thursday's Multicoolty National Parties Night at the Ljubljana Castle, Tourism Ljubljana will serve dishes from the Taste Ljubljana selection to participants and speakers, thereby presenting them with the creativity of the local cuisine. For young creatives under the age of 30, the Slovenian Advertising Chamber together with the City Municipality of Ljubljana organised the “Ljubljana Poster Award” contest for the best and most creative poster; the theme of the contest is Ljubljana is green for you. Get active, get fit.
As an original city of urban creativity, culture, tradition and contemporaneity, full of picturesque and pleasant locations, the new host of the festival, Ljubljana, European Green Capital 2016, will ensure that all attendees are “Inspired to inspire”. The latter is the slogan of this year's Golden Drum, which, along with exceptional speakers including the inspiring Cindy Gallop, also provides a renewed competition programme. The intention behind this is to attract fresh ideas, daring approaches and solutions indicative of new trends, and with new awards the organisers seek to encourage regional creativity and put local inspiration at the forefront.
Hosting the international festival will attract the advertising and creativity community from 37 countries of the so-called “new Europe” to Ljubljana, thus promising an additional promotion of the destination. Due to its tidiness and attractive architecture with a hint of the romantic, the Slovenian capital has for several years been a popular location for foreign clients to film advertisements. Quality advertisements look like postcards, go viral on the internet and thus contribute to the recognisability of the city abroad. Tourism Ljubljana will present the Taste Ljubljana selection of the capital’s traditional dishes to the participants of the festival so they will also recognise Ljubljana as a culinary capital and wish to return in the future.
The works entered in the competition programme will be exhibited in the Ljubljana Castle during the festival. Anyone interested in the exhibition should enquire at the festival reception.
