Ljubljana among the Covid-19 Safest Christmas Destinations
6 Oct 2020
European Best Destinations organisation listed Ljubljana among the 15 European destinations with the safest Christmas markets in Europe for Covid-19.
Every year, the European Best Destinations (EBD) organization, which is part of the European Commission’s EDEN Network ("European Destinations of Excellence") working to promote sustainable tourism on the continent, releases its approved list of beautiful European cities that host the best Christmas markets.
This year, the evaluation process had to be adjusted to take into account Covid-19 measures and circumstances according to each country, and European Best Destinations made a carefully selected list of destinations where it will be possible to enjoy the Christmas fairytale while still following strict health and sanitary rules.
Ljubljana (and Slovenia) was placed on the Safest Christmas Destinations list. EBD points out that with 12 times fewer severe cases of Covid-19 per million inhabitants than the most affected countries in Europe, Slovenia is positioned as one of the safest destinations this winter. They describe Slovenia as a »destination which is perfect for a break far from stress in the middle of nature and enjoying timeless moments on fresh air.« They further highlight the fact that it is the most awarded European destination by the European Commission for its commitment to sustainable tourism.
Ljubljana is presented as a »terribly romantic destination, where visitors can treat themselves to a moment of pure relaxation and wonder while walking through the illuminated streets of Ljubljana.« They also emphasize that the city is home to a Christmas market considered to be one of the most beautiful in Europe and invite visitors to the Christmas fair, which will take place between November 27 and January 2. They also point out that small hotels, boutique hotels, guesthouses or tourist apartments as well as hotels from large chains are already waiting for guests this winter and what they all have in common is that they are all applying strict sanitary measures.
