Ljubljana again makes the list of the world’s most sustainable destinations
10 Oct 2019
For the fifth time, Ljubljana has made the Global TOP 100 Sustainable Destinations list, maintaining its position as one of the world’s most sustainable destinations.
The award was made as part of Global Green Destinations Days, a global sustainable tourism event held this year in Zagreb and Mali Lošinj.
Green Destinations is a non-profit international organisation that uses a series of strict criteria to assess and reward best practices in global green and sustainable tourism. Every year it organises Global Green Destinations Days, one of the largest international conferences on sustainable tourism. This year, the international jury was particularly impressed with Moustache Tour, which offers an unusual experience and is, at the same time, an example of good sustainable practice. It was designed by Ljubljana Tourism in cooperation with professionals for cultural tourism.
Ljubljana first made the Global Top 100 Sustainable Destinations in 2014 and has retained its place on the list this year, making it the most decorated city for sustainable tourism achievements and the only city in the world to make the list five times.
This year the Green Destinations organisation also gave the “Best of Cities” award to Ljubljana at one of the world’s biggest and most important tourism trade fairs, ITB Berlin. The Slovenian capital beat off competition from the other cities on the Global Top 100 Destinations to win the award.
