7 Oct 2021
Among the eight Slovenian projects that applied for the Energy Globe Award 2021 for Slovenia, Ljubljana Tourism registered the project "Green Supply Chains« in the "Earth" category and won. With this, it qualified for the second round, where it will compete for the most recognized environmental award at the international level.
The goal is innovative and sustainable solutions
The “Energy Globe Award”- the Award for Sustainability worldwide - is today the most recognized environmental award worldwide, established by the American agency Arthur D. Little. It is organized by the independent Energy Globe Foundation from Austria and is awarded in four categories: Earth, Fire, Water and Air. The aim of the award is to present innovative and sustainable solutions to the largest possible global audience, and everyone who offers solutions to our environmental problems with their projects, especially in relation to reducing emissions and pollution, can participate.
Connecting local food producers with providers
Ljubljana Tourism applied the Green Supply Chains project in the "Earth" category, in which the jury was looking for innovative solutions that contribute to nature conservation and sustainable measures. The Green Supply Chains connect local food producers with restaurants and hotels and bring quality, local, tasty and environmentally friendly ingredients to the plates of Ljubljana eaters.
The project was created in 2015 during the preparations for the title Green Capital of Europe 2016 in cooperation between Ljubljana Tourism, the Sector for Rural Development at the Department of Environmental Protection of the City of Ljubljana, the "sustainable tourism factory" GoodPlace and the cooperative Jarina. By 2017, the project had expanded to the entire Ljubljana region and connected Ljubljana and 25 municipalities in the Ljubljana region. Enabling simple and organized purchases of locally or regionally produced food at affordable prices contributes to the richness of the culinary offer in the city, shorter supply chains promote sustainable development and at the same time contribute to the growth of the local economy.
The award ceremony will take place on November 4, 2021 at 5 pm at the MONS Hotel in Ljubljana as part of the GreenTech Austria: Austrian Business Circle event.
