Druga godba - a very special music festival
21 Apr 2015
Ljubljana's Druga godba, this year taking place for its 31th time, is one of the more unique festivals around. It's also one of the more interesting ones in the Central Europe, regularly making it to the world's 25 best international music festivals list by the British magazine Songlines.
Druga godba is a continuous two-day concert marathon featuring world music greats from all over the global scene, promising young artists and an occasional alternative or jazz act. This years' festival, taking place from 28 to 30 May, will bring to Ljubljana 16 great concerts. Its musical landscape will be mostly psychedelic, with a prominent number of female voices and dub rhytms represented as well.
The major highlights will be concerts by Aziza Brahim, a musician from Western Sahara who speaks of and for the unheard and the oppressed; Hindi Zahra, a young Moroccan French musician of Berber heritage; US indie sensation Tune-Yards with their wild mix of worldbeat, indie pop, Afrobeat and freak folk; acclaimed Spanish singer Sílvia Pérez Cruz, approaching flamenco heritage in a new, interesting ways; famous Angolan/Portuguese musician, producer and DJ Pedro Coquenão aka Batida.
