Tourist events in public spaces
Ljubljana is a city with a vibrant and relaxed atmosphere. A major contribution to this is made by the numerous free open-air events that take place throughout the year and are a special feature of life in our city.
Events in public spaces characterise Ljubljana’s atmosphere, contribute to its promotion in the local and international environment, and enrich its tourism offering. That is why Ljubljana Tourism has, since its foundation, encouraged the creation of diverse, interesting, attractive and inspiring events.
We publish two calls for funding applications each year:
Call for applications for co-funding for tourist events in public spaces within the City of Ljubljana
Through this call for applications, we aim to promote vibrant events in public spaces in accordance with criteria relating to the innovativeness and quality of projects, their accessibility, their potential in the sense of promotion and marketing, and their compatibility with sustainable principles. In doing so, we follow two key strategic focuses: widening the events space outside the city centre (decentralisation) and encouraging events throughout the year (deseasonalisation).
Call for applications for co-funding for tourist events organised by tourism associations in public spaces within the City of Ljubljana
Through this call for applications for co-funding for events organised by tourism associations, we foster the preservation of local traditions and customs, typical culinary specialities, the preservation of natural sights of interest, the participation of the local population in activities designed to promote tourism, and compatibility with sustainable principles. This call for applications also includes the annual clean-up campaign For A More Beautiful Ljubljana, organised by tourism associations within the City of Ljubljana.
Events that obtain co-funding through the above calls for applications are extremely diverse, interesting and high-quality, and contribute to Ljubljana’s character as a relaxed city that is a pleasant place to live in and visit.
We support both traditional festivals and one-off ad hoc events connected to music, theatre, dance, sport and other activities. Common to all the events is that they take place in public spaces and are accessible to everyone – and therefore free of charge.
