Jože Plečnik (1872 - 1957), a native and lifelong resident of Ljubljana, is considered one of the world's most important pioneers of modern architecture. His creative opus had a significant impact on the appearance of three Central European cities: Vienna, Prague and especially his beloved Ljubljana. The imprint that Plečnik left on Ljubljana is so distinctive and ineradicable that Plečnik’s Ljubljana as a unique urban specialty is one of the most original and significant total works of art of the 20th century to be found anywhere in the world.
During a pleasant walk from the starting point, the Tourist Information Centre at the Triple Bridge, pass the Cobblers' bridge, Kongresni trg square, Križanke Summer Theatre to Plečnik House on the Karunova ulica street in the Trnovo district, some of his best works are revealed to you on a guided tour. One of the peaks is visiting the National and University Library (NUK), which is probably Plečnik’s most significant work in Slovenia. Treat yourself to Coffee and homemade pie in the NUK café. The tour ends in the renovated Plečnik House, where the architect lived and created. This is the place where the idea of Plečnik's Ljubljana came to life.
