Thirteen Recipients of the Slovenian Congress Ambassador Title 2023

The Slovenian Ambassador Programme has been running since 2019 with the support of Ljubljana Tourism, Slovenian Convention Bureau and Slovenian Tourist Board, and 14 partners from 6 destination clubs. At the end of September 2023, the seven-member Slovenian Congress Ambassador Programme Committee, composed of representatives of destination clubs and the Slovenian Convention Bureau, confirmed this year’s 13 winners of the honorary title.

HOMMAGE À FRANČIŠEK SMERDU: SIXTY YEARS LATER

Academy-trained sculptor Frančišek Smerdu (1908, Postojna–1964, Ljubljana) is remembered on the one hand as a remarkably subtle and insightful interpreter of the human body, which he exalted, through his sculptural and wider artistic vision, in heroic, martial poses that are nevertheless full of human feeling, in public monuments commemorating important events or figures that typically feature monumentally accentuated perceptions of volumes, masses, surfaces and spaces; and on the other as a refined interpreter of the female form, from which he elicited softness, tenderness, gentleness, sensuousness, eroticism and spiritual beauty.

OTO PESTNER & BIG BAND RTV SLOVENIA

Over the last 56 years Oto Pestner has performed at around 10,000 concerts in Slovenia and around the world, most of them with the New Swing Quartet or the Alpenoberkrainer or as a soloist. At Ljubljana’s Križanke, the RTV Slovenia Big Band will accompany him on a journey through his rich and diverse musical career, taking in original songs that encapsulate specific moments of his past and some of the arrangements that have made the greatest impression on him.
