A walk on the wild side in the Ljubljana Marshes
I’d planned spending a few hours exploring the Ljubljana Marshes, wetlands greatly diverse in wildlife, and ended doing a 17-km circle and returning there over the next few days. To say the least, the Ljubljana Marshes themselves were a treat and are easily my favorite place for a relaxing adventure near the capital.

Visit Vrhnika for a trip into history
If you are a history lover, the ancient artifacts along with the story of how Vrhnika is transforming itself these days, will make for a compelling half-day trip. Vrhnika is situated some 20 kilometres west of Ljubljana and is easily reachable by public transport or by car via A1 motorway. The town lies at the edge of Ljubljana Marshes and by the river Ljubljanica, the sources of which are nearby.
